Meet the NanoQuin Family at Crossgates Mall in front of Brookstone

Dr. Nicholas NanoQuin is a board-certified medical oncologist who specializes in the identification and management of individuals who have inherited an increased risk of cancer. During his off hours, Dr. NanoQuin likes to day trade and catch up on world news using his Apple iPad, but for pure enjoyment, he’s been known to spend time on the golf links, where he can take full advantage of his nanotechnology-enabled golf equipment. His clubs have nanocomposite technology that increases the surface area of the shaft to generate a tighter molecular structure, creating fewer voids in the fiber, tighter tolerances and lighter weight with more fiber density – in other words, they’re lighter but stronger. He uses golf balls made by Buffalo-based NanoDynamics, which employ innovative nanotechnology to efficiently transfer energy from the club head to the ball for a shot that travels just as far without hooks or slices.

Dr. Naomi NanoQuin is a nanoscientist. She is actively involved in applying and integrating nanotechnologyinnovations to solve materials, performance and engineering challenges related to polymers, as well as thin-film based photovoltaic devices, electrodes for fuel cells, thermoelectric devices, ultracapacitors and high-temperature superconductors. She received her Ph.D. in NanoScale Engineering from the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering of the University at Albany. Like her husband, Dr. NanoQuin likes to spend her down time playing sports. She’s an avid tennis player who uses a racquet made with nanocomposite technology, which allows the racquet to be lighter and stronger.

Naomi NanoQuin is in the fifth grade and enjoys Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs at her school. Her future ambition is to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a nanoengineer, developing clean energy technologies that will help our nation reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. Natalie likes to spend time with her canine buddy, Chip, and play video games on her Playstation 3.

Chip is a Fox Terrier who loves to play fetch and look after Naomi. Nanotechnology has even enhanced the way he lives. Underneath the scruff of Chip’s neck is a microchip that is used for identification purposes, and his jacket and water dish are both protected by antimicrobial and stain-resistant properties enabled by nanotechnology.
